THE PORCH SESSIONS
When the coronavirus pandemic began and social distancing suddenly became a thing, a friend gave me the idea to take pictures of families from their porches while maintaining a safe distance. I read online that some photographers were doing this as a way to raise money to help combat the coronavirus, so I decided to do the same!
Here was the idea: Participants stayed right outside of their front door and I’ll stayed far away (at least 6 feet) to take your photos safely (thank you, zoom lenses!). No contact was required and no payment to me was necessary. Instead, participants made a gift to one of two organizations that were serving people affected by the pandemic here in Indianapolis and around the world.
This family showed what quarantine life was really like during their Porch Session!
The first option was Church World Service (CWS). CWS is a global organization with the mission to provide just and sustainable solutions to hunger, poverty, displacement, and disaster. They work in the United States and all over the world. Their coronavirus response ranges from distributing information on the virus itself to providing sustainable clean water sources for entire communities to grants to families so they can have internet for homeschooling.
The second option was the Central Indiana Covid-19 Economic Relief Fund. It was launched on March 13, 2020, to help ensure individuals, children and families in need are supported during this pandemic in Central Indiana. United Way of Central Indiana and a coalition of partners are working with the human services sector to identify these immediate needs and make emergency funds available to organizations working directly with vulnerable populations.
These sessions were such a fun way to give back during a hard time! Thank you to everyone who participated. Check out the organizations that were supported through these sessions!
